Over the years…many important things have happened during this week that make it so memorable for me. When I was 11…I got to go to my first concert. (Yes…of course it was Hanson for those wondering.) And while this might not seem like a big deal to you…when you are 11…it is pretty awesome.
Then when I was 14, I got to go to a camp in New York and there I accepted Christ on July 6th. I know…I know… these things are entirely unrelated…but just bear with me a bit.
I have always loved July 4th…It meant my aunt’s macaroni salad…my mom’s potato salad…grilling at my grandma’s and my family being together. I can still remember the one July 4th where we were got to have pie eating contests and smash my little cousin in the face with a whipped cream pie. (Note: That “little cousin” is about to turn 22.)
I really don’t know what it was. There just always seemed to be something magical about this week? Maybe it was the promise of more endless summer nights…dazzling fireworks…child-like fun? But if I didn’t think it could get any better than it was…it did five years ago today.
Five years ago today…I met this man. During my favorite week of the year…on July 3rd…which also happens to be his birthday…I met this amazing man.
If you had asked me five years ago what I would be doing today…I would have probably told you I would have graduated from law school or be working on the Capitol Hill. (Man am I glad God laugh’s at plans;)
But ever since I met Sean…my life has changed. Since we met, I have learned to enjoy life more…to take in the little moments…to dream bigger…to celebrate every day. He is the man that has shown me what loving what you do and doing what you love is the only way to live. He is the man who still let’s me listen to Hanson…and that’s ok. He is the man who loves me for exactly who I am. And most importantly…he is the man who dances with my daughter…every…single…day.
And now you can see…why this is my favorite week of the year:)
Happy Birthday my love…I am so blessed to have met you. You make my life better every day and Adalynn and I are so lucky to have you. Now let’s celebrate!
