Father’s Day was extra special this year. Celebrating the awesome dad of my three beautiful kiddos and marking five years since photographing my first birth gave me lots to celebrate. First off, can I just say that I do NOT know how I have three kids or how I have photographed births for FIVE years. I hope it is a drop in the bucket in comparison to the many years of working with families ahead of me. Second, I know that the latter of those two things I celebrated couldn’t come without the former. My husband is my biggest fan. He is our family visionary and makes all of our dreams come a reality.
My first birth five years ago was an all-nighter and I met him at church on Father’s Day morning. Since then he has helped me gather my bags in the middle of the night, coordinated the kiddos for when I am exhausted coming home and always has listened to my big ideas; even it means hearing them out before the sun has risen in the morning. True story, I finally decided to become a doula during a 2AM nursing session and I woke him up to tell him…He didn’t complain. Instead, since that Father’s Day, he has helped with business plans, nitty gritty spreadsheets I don’t have a knack for, and always been my number one partner with enthusiasm. He does all of that while being the BEST dad to our three kids. (This is one of my favorite photos above from when Deacon was born:) He is the greatest. We celebrated with a blueberry pie and taking on a big family project in true DeFrehn Father’s Day fashion. I hope everyone else had a beautiful father’s dad.
Check out some of my favorite dad moments over the last few years in the slideshow for Frederick Mom’s and Doulas. I have been able to witness so much love because of the person that loves me so much… Happy Father’s Day friends.
